Painting the Figure in Oil
This workshop will introduce techniques of painting the figure with oil paint.
Day 1
Introduction to color, form, light and space. The morning will be compromised of quick charcoal gesture drawings of the body in different poses.
Afternoon we will begin a painting of the figure with a limited palette.
Day 2.
Full day long pose with the figure.
Morning session will focus on establishing the form in space, weight and value in the painting.
Afternoon will focus on details, understanding balance, and finishing the painting
Materials to bring:
Charcoal (assorted)
Large drawing pad (newsprint is the most economical)
Kneaded eraser
3 medium varied sized canvases. approx. 16”X20” - 18”x24” (sizes of your choice)
oil paint:
titanium white
cadmium lemon yellow
cadmium red light
alizarin crimson
ultramarine blue
manganese blue hue
sap green
burnt umber
yellow ochre
optional colors:
indian yellow
quinacridone red, or carmine
manganese purple
cobalt blue
can dyke brown
assorted brushes
rags
odorless mineral spirits and glass container
Wildcard
The workshop will have one wildcard spot, which will be free attendance for an artist unable to afford the class. Reisha and the gallery team will review submissions and choose one promising artist. You can apply for the wildcard by sending three of your artworks by email to / kathy@benjamin-eck.com
