In this workshop we will focus on portraits from life done in one sitting.
The first day will be spent on a complete demo and analysis by Danny Ferland.
Focus will be on likeness and structure from the beginning.
A quick charcoal drawing will be established before moving on to painting.
This stage will help students with less experience to look for likeness without staining the canvas.
Burnt Umber will then be introduced to seal off the drawing and get a stronger contrast.
On top of this layer we will move on to full color.
Emphasis will be on mixing the right values and color and applying tiles of paint in a mosaical way.
At the end of the process, a fully rendered portrait will emerge.
Students will have one whole day to finish their portrait, then they will switch to another spot on the second day
and paint another portrait.
The goal is to get the students to speed up their process in order to get a looser result and help them in
developing a quick reaction time in judging values and color.
The workshop will have a wildcard spot that is free for an artist who can not afford the class. Danny and the gallery team will review the submissions and select a promising artist. You can apply for the placeholder by emailing three of your artworks at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Deadline is MARCH 27, 2020.
