ARON DEMETZ

Aron Demetz comes from an old Ladin family of sculptors from Gröden (it .: Val Gardena, lad .: Gherdëina); the name Demetz means translated from afar. Demetz learned wood carving from 1986 at the art school in Selva di Val Gardena and then attended the local vocational school for wood sculptors, wood carvers and barrel painters until 1993. He orientated himself towards sculptors like Willy Verginer and other progressive Val Gardena artists. In 1997/98 he supplemented this training with a degree in sculpture with Christian Höpfner at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg.

Since then Demetz has had a large number of international group and solo exhibitions in Europe, Asia and the USA. In January 2010 he was appointed professor of sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara for three years. His wooden figure ensemble Untitled was exhibited in the Italian pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale.

NIKOLAI MAKAROV

Makarov provokes the limits of perception and deceives the senses by wrapping his subjects in a transparent, misty veil. The real merges with the unreal; his aim is to convey something visually comprehensible, at the same time to disguise reality and to change the atmosphere of the scenery. Subjects are alienated in favor of suggestive power.

The further the representation moves away from the - always comprehensible - reality content and the personal impression prevails, the more it is able to convey heterogeneous, even illusionistic possibilities of association.2021
