Modern art knows no borders; it is a reflection of the all-encompassing globalization and internationalization. The painter and illustrator, who comes from Syria and lives in Vienna, accepted the invitation and made a statement.
Adel Dauood is not a chronicler of a tragedy of a country or its life; rather, he shows the contradictions in human existence through his works. By painting a picture, he becomes aware of concrete connections and creates the idea of a fighting, defending, curious and vital artist for the viewer.
»Adel Dauood's pictures come from the reality of the head, in which reality mixes with memories from the past, the all-dominating present and the fears of expectation, i.e. the future. Rarely have images spoken to me so much, rarely have they been in my head so persistently. Adel Dauood succeeds in directing his imagination suggestively towards the moment of fright, the last memory image before fainting or the beginning of a dream. Then everything takes its course.«
(Gerhard Roth)
The artist, born in Al-Hasakah in Syria in 1980, studied from 1998 to 2011 at the Center for Fine Arts in his hometown and at the Institute for Fine Arts at the University of DamEskus. In 2012, Adel Dauood fled from Syria to Vienna, where he now works and lives as an artist. In 2014 he was selected by the ESSL Museum from 756 applicants to present his artistic work as part of the exhibition “The Future of Painting”.
