ABOUT NORBERT FRENSCH

The gallery ponyhof artclub shows pictures of the Frankfurt based artist Norbert Frensch (* 1960 in Mainz). A selection from the extensive series of "black pictures" can be seen in which, Frensch has been exploring the potential of light and darkness, time and space in painting since 1992. The central motif of this perpetual pictorial field research is a metallic shimmering shell, the fragmentation of shape, which is immersed in complete darkness. Since 10 years, Norbert Frensch paints his motifs with oil paint and a reflecting resin glaze:

A simple, silvery, shimmering shell dipped into a deep night, in the surface of which the last remains of the light seem to be caught. From image to image illuminations, perspective and the material appearance of the shell vary. Their puzzling appearance always remains at the limit of visibility.
In Another image group he concerns himself with brightening in gray. These are shadow scenes that still seem like escape routes into the promise of a sky: resin and oil is played here as a light glaze and accentuated.
The viewer can not escape the desire to explore the enigmatic space-time effects of this painting. Perhaps it is precisely because the works do not offer coloring, but they want to be explored carefully almost as if the viewer is required to meditate.
